Sip with Intention: Curating Summer Moments in the City

Summer has a way of shifting our mindset. Life moves outdoors, conversations linger longer, and simple moments — like a chilled glass of wine — take on a deeper meaning. In a world that often rushes us from one task to the next, summer invites us to slow down, savor, and, most importantly, be intentional.

This season, we're embracing that idea more than ever. Living here in Chicago’s "Trifecta" of the Gold Coast, River North and Streeterville neighborhoods, we're surrounded by endless summer tables — from waterfront patios and rooftop lounges to our own roof space in our new building. It’s a privilege (and, frankly, a temptation) to curate experiences, whether it’s a sunset toast with friends or a lazy Saturday brunch overlooking the lake.

And for us, curating those moments starts with what’s poured into the glass.

The Art of Pouring with Purpose

This summer, we've been drawn to ONEHOPE’s curated collection of wines — not just for their crisp, expressive profiles, but for their deeper mission. Every bottle supports meaningful causes, from childhood hunger to global health initiatives. Through their ongoing partnership with Engel & Völkers, proceeds also benefit Special Olympics athletes — a cause close to the heart.

My current summer lineup mirrors the rhythms of the city:

  • Weekend Brunches: A vibrant Vintner Sparkling Brut, ideal for those early mornings when the lakefront buzzes with energy.

  • Poolside Afternoons: A refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, citrusy and lively, perfect against the Chicago heat.

  • Sunset Dinners: A chilled Herstory Rosato — elegant and bright, like our city sunsets over Navy Pier.

  • Evening Fireside Chats: A bold Vintner Cabernet Sauvignon for those conversations that stretch deep into the night.

It’s a small choice, but a powerful one: pairing good company with wines that not only elevate the table but also give back.

How We're Curating Our Summer Tables and Gatherings

Living here, summer feels less like a season and more like a series of tables — a quick espresso on Rush Street, a long dinner on a Gold Coast patio, an impromptu bottle shared under the stars at home.

This year, we're curating our summer tables and gatherings with three simple intentions:

  • Thoughtful Selections: Wines (and now, some spirits) with a story behind them.

  • Effortless Sophistication: Fresh local ingredients, beautiful tableware, easy but elevated gatherings. Less fuss is the order of the day.

  • A Spirit of Giving: Infusing purpose into the simple act of pouring a glass.

Because at the end of the day, summer isn’t about being busy — it’s about being present. Mobile phones out of sight. The right glass of wine, the right sunset, the right people — that’s where the magic happens.

A Word on the Rise of Non-Alcoholic Options

As much as traditional wine holds its place at many tables, there’s no denying a new movement growing alongside it. Non-alcoholic wines and beverages are more than just a passing trend — they’re reshaping how many of us think about celebration itself. The U.S. non-alcoholic wine and spirits market is projected to grow by more than 18% annually through 2028. That’s real momentum.

Today’s most talked-about non-alcoholic choices making waves include:

  • Ghia Le Spritz: A sophisticated, bitter aperitif — perfect for aperitivo hour.

  • De Soi Golden Hour: A sparkling adaptogen apéritif, designed to relax and refresh.

  • St. Agrestis Phony Negroni: A non-alcoholic Negroni that satisfies even the most discerning cocktail lover.

For non-alcoholic wines, the highest-rated options this summer include:

  • Noughty Sparkling Chardonnay: Crisp, elegant, and a worthy alternative to traditional bubbly.

  • Proxies Red Ember: A bold, spice-driven red blend with no alcohol required.

  • Oddbird Blanc de Blancs: A dry, sophisticated sparkling white from Sweden.

Expanding Horizons: THC and Cannabis-Infused Beverages

While non-alcoholic wines are gaining traction, another category is making its mark on the summer table: THC and cannabis-infused beverages. These drinks offer a modern twist on relaxation, providing a nuanced experience without the effects of alcohol. In Illinois, the popularity of such drinks is on the rise, with products like Uncle Arnie's Strawberry Kiwi Shot and Journeyman's Tropical Lemonade leading sales.

The cannabis beverage market is experiencing significant growth nationally. In 2025, North America is projected to hold approximately 37.2% of the global market share, reflecting the increasing acceptance and demand for these products.

For those interested in exploring this category, here are a few noteworthy options:

  • Cann Social Tonic: Known for its low-dose THC content and flavors like lemon lavender, it's a favorite for social settings.

  • Hopewell's Choom: A local Chicago brewery's take on a sparkling wine-like THC beverage, offering a unique experience for those seeking alternatives.

  • Delta Cannabis' Pink Lemonade: With a higher THC content, this drink caters to those familiar with cannabis-infused products.

Incorporating these beverages into your summer gatherings can provide guests with diverse options, ensuring everyone feels included and catered to, regardless of their preferences.

At our summer tables, these options are starting to make more appearances — not as replacements, but as extensions of the idea that everyone deserves a seat, a glass, and a memorable experience.

Here’s to a summer of intention, connection, and endless toasts — whatever you choose to pour.
